Welcome to a sacred place that holds women as the unique precious jewels that they are, where they are seen, celebrated, and embraced in acceptance and community.

Our deepest passion is to bring that primal flame of the Sacred Feminine into our work to honour the rhythms of Womanhood and the Great Mother’s seasons and cycles as we change.

About Us

Penny Champ and Anne-Marie Hoyne

The Women’s Hearth community was born in 2011 when we began holding the Red Tent Circle ~ a safe, sacred, nurturing and creative space for women of all ages and life stages ~ in our hometown of Perth, Western Australia.

Around the same time, a world-wide Red Tent movement was growing and women all over the globe were gathering in Red Tents of one form or another ~ in their living rooms, community halls, at festivals, in parks, anywhere!

We had intuitively tapped into something much bigger than ourselves, and our shared, long-held dreams of building supportive communities of women began to flourish. Since those early years our offerings have expanded to include retreats, a delicious range of Circles, sacred drum making and other creative projects in Perth and in the South West

We believe that our work with The Women’s Hearth is graced by Divine guidance. For these gifts, we are truly grateful and we want to share our blessings with you!

Since being a young woman I have had a passion for Spiritual Feminism and its myriad of wondrous interpretations. At the heart of how I live my life is my greatest wish that all Women, no matter what age, culture or background find a way to embrace the Sacred Feminine in whatever individual form it presents itself. I believe it is this unique inward weaving of the Divine Feminine that has the potential to create beautiful, grace-filled change where everyone is empowered. Journeying with Spiritual Feminism led me to Glastonbury - known to those that see it and feel it as The Isle of Avalon - and thus I have spent much time over the last 30 years connecting to its powerful landscape and many diverse myths. The Isle of Avalon has shaped my life and work on many levels. It is from this rich and magical background that I bring the Hearth story, poem, song, ceremony and ritual. These are the foundations of my devotion to Great Spirit.
After studying Anthropology at university I had the honour of working with Irish Gypsy Women for many years in Oxford and experienced the quiet yet powerful influence Women had in their communities through their Spiritual beliefs and creativity even though on the surface they appeared to be oppressed.  Working with West Indian Women, Homeless Women, Single Mothers, and here in Australia Indigenous Elder Women in the Pilbara and Gascoyne, deepened my belief that Women have a power within them, whatever their circumstance, to shine, strive, and change the world.  Many of these Women intentionally tend the Hearth, whether the Hearth is a physical reality or the heart and Soul within and are Women who wield incredible yet peaceful forces of power. It is this that inspires me most.

My interest in ancient traditions and initiations lead me to become a Marriage and Funeral Celebrant in 2008 and I have since had the honour of guiding many individuals and couples across significant thresholds. For the past 7 years I have worked in a Steiner School working with Class 12 students guiding them through a substantial, powerful, year long initiation process that prepares them to go out into the adult world with the skills that make us truly empowered human beings - beings who are imaginative, intuitive and inspired practically, creatively and academically.

I am absolutely in love with the work we do at The Women's Hearth. To do this work with my gorgeous co-creator Anne-Marie Hoyne is a blessing that cannot really be expressed in words!  I never tire of seeing Women at our Circles and retreats, dance, move, create, laugh, and rest, and am forever in awe of their capacity to love and support one another with such grace and care.

I was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. My love of Nature has always been a strong, inspiring force in my life. I trust that Mother Nature provides everything we need to live abundant, healthy and beauty-filled lives.

As a child, I loved the sense of connection, community and spirituality that I experienced in my extended family. I'm called to co-create these values everywhere I go. Creative expression through music, singing and dancing has also been fundamental in my life. I’m an insatiable learner and I've always been fascinated by what makes us 'human'.
As a young woman, I became passionate about the liberation of women in all aspects of our lives. My own healing and liberation journey has taught me that this is personal, social, cultural and spiritual work. On my own journey through womanhood, I have been supported by strong, inspiring, ordinary and amazing women through many powerful initiations as a woman, as a mother, and as a midwife of the Soul. I am called to offer this same support to other women, and that’s why I love what we do at The Women's Hearth. We travel alongside our sisters through life's ups and downs, we raise each other up, hold, support and encourage each other; through leadership by example, we teach our sons and daughters a new way of being in the world ~ a Sacred Feminist way that honours the Earth and all Her lifeforms as sacred, precious, equally respected and loved.

I have been fortunate to learn from some brilliant teachers and mentors including my own parents, my husband, my children and many of my friends. I am blessed to have met Penny Champ when we were training to become Marriage Celebrants. My training and experience as a sacred ceremony celebrant gives me a deep sense of understanding the significance of honouring life’s transitions. As a personal life coach and expressive arts healing facilitator I also offer a range of transformational tools that support women on their individual life journeys through my business Coessence Healing & Transformation.

My own life experiences have gifted me with a rich basket of skills, deep compassion and an embodied joy of Life to share at The Hearth.
